Hunter's Prototec Graph

From the start of Week One, Term Four, Rimu Class started doing Prototec almost everyday. Prototec is a website where you do a Basic Facts test and you can choose to do it on your Maths Stage. Here is a link to Prototec to try for yourself. If you don’t know your Basic Facts it will be very difficult to understand Maths.

We practise most days so these facts will sink into our minds! Here is my Prototec graph for the last 6 weeks. I did Stage 6. I thought the hardest part was adding and subtracting to 1000. I find it easy and hard. This is good because my brain is growing. I would recommend it!

My First Cantatamaths Exhibition Entry

This year we entered in the Cantamaths exhibition. I was doing my Cantamaths on world record Olympians. I chose 5 sports and I did: 200m sprints, cycling, shot put,High jump and long jump. I found it interesting that the times were getting faster and faster. Is this because:
  1. People are training harder and differently?
  2. Because the bikes could of changed?
  3. Do the coaches know more about the sports?

What I found hard was finding the information on the iPad. I really enjoyed making my book.

Primary school should have more adventurous playgrounds

Primary school should have more adventurous playgrounds. This is my speech. I was working on speaking at an appropriate pace- not too fast and not too slow. I felt a little nervous but when I had finished I felt happy. next time I want to work on looking at the audience. To do this I want to memorise my speech.

THE COAT

This term I am reading a chapter book about 'The Coat'. We are all doing a Novel Study and we get to choose our own book that we haven't read before. I have just begun my first activity. It is a dust jacket which means I am designing my own cover for the story. I like how this story has been written.

My Art Response to the Wigram Air Force Museum.

On Monday our class went to the Air Force Museum. We talked about WWI and WWII. I painted a picture of a battlefield. It was the Germans against Britain and lots of other countries. My painting shows them hiding behind their trenches. There is barbed wire and sandbags. The bit in the middle is No Man's Land. I liked the Museum, especially all the aeroplanes.

My 5 Sentence Challenge!

Here is the prompt for this weeks 5 Sentence Challenge. My 5 sentences are below. It was fun to do because I liked the picture. It was colourful and a good story to do.
blue coach
Things to think about:
  • What can you see? Look closely!
  • Where is the bus going?
  • Who are the people getting on the bus?
  • What sort of place is this? A town, village, city?

Every Day the same blue and yellow bus comes down to John's road to pick us up to go to work at the University of Auckland. It was a funny day because a girl was riding beside the bus on a bike! There were wekas on the road and sheep walking across the road. The people got on the bus and got to work. Later the people went home.

Sunshine!

Each week I do the 5 Sentence Challenge. This is my first week doing it and the prompt was 'Sunshine'. I was working on putting all my full stops in to make it exactly 5 sentences. Enjoy!

I woke up on a sunday, it was a bright sun. I went outside to play on my scooter and it was a hot sunshine and I went to play on my tramp to do forward flip 180. I tried to do a forward flip 360. I tried and tried, I did a forward flip 360! For once I was happy and I did it once more and I went inside to play to climb the wall I go to the top of the roof it was fun!

My timetable for Term 2!

This term our school value we are focusing on is being an Enthusiastic Learner. This means in Term 2 we are focusing on sticking to our own timetables. This also means we are becoming good at self managing our own work and learning goals. Here is my timetable for this week. What do you think? Do you have any tips for me to manage my time better?

True or False?

This week we wrote a holiday story that could be true or false. What do you think mine is?

On Sunday, Jack, Dad and I drove to the Washington Way Skatepark. Jack and I rode on our scooters. Jack and I rode down the bowl and I landed my first tailwhip. A boy was on rollarblades, he did a forward flip 180 and he landed. On Wednesday Jack, Mum and I drove to Adrenaline Forest, there were a lot of challenges. I did 1, 2 and 3 and Jack did 1, 2, 3, 3b and 4. On Level 2 there were barrels that we needed to click ourselves onto. Jack said,
"They were easy."
But the barrels were hard for myself. We stayed for about 3 hours and started to feel like I needed to have a rest. After we finished we headed home. I had an awesome day!

Hanmer Camp with my Dad

Thank you dad for coming on Hanmer Forestry camp from Wednesday 9th March to Friday 11th March. I Iiked having you with me because you could help me on camp. It was great how you helped with the food. One of my favourite activities was tree climbing, I liked this because I got really high and it was my 2nd favorite activity. My  favourite activity was hiking up the Conical Hill because it was a cool view from the top.

My group and I walked up to Conical Hill. It  was fun because I liked walking and I like going up hills. I felt tired at times,  I was breathing hard because It was a very steep hill to walk up.

We got to the top 10-15 minutes later and then we went back down to the bottom.

Everyone got to the orienteering, we started.  After we went back to camp I was tired. I felt safe at camp because Dad was with me. I enjoyed the Conical Hill walk because I loved the view at the top.

My Mihi

My 'Wonder' writing

Last week for writing I wrote about the point of view that R.J Palacio used for the book ‘Wonder’. I like the book ‘Wonder’ and I find it an interesting story.

‘Wonder’ is a story about a boy who feels ordinary on the inside, but he is always reminded of how different he is by how people respond when they meet him. This is R.J Palacio’s first novel and it is written in the first person.

I think it is in 1st person because R.J Palacio has written it from August’s point of view because he says “ I don’t know how long I was asleep.”

When August started school, he said, “Next week I start fifth grade.”

Palacio has used the first person point of view in her story ‘Wonder’.
